What is sound therapy?

The art of sound has existed in every culture known to man. In fact, the earliest record of sound being used as a healing tool dates back more than 40,000 years to the Aboriginal people of Australia using the didgeridoo. The Greek philosopher, Pythagoras, was known as the “father of music” because he discovered musical intervals and used sound and harmonic frequencies for healing. In fact, he was the first to prescribe sound as medicine.

History aside, any movie goer knows how music can bring us to an emotional high within seconds. Since the 2020 Pandemic, healing modalities at large have seen a revival with people seeking natural ways to combat their increasing levels of stress, anxiety, pain and sleeplessness. This need created a surge in the sound therapy movement, bringing a multitude of products, programs, healing centers, and audio tracks to the market. While sound therapy covers a wide range of treatments, it uses sound/tones, music, the human voice, and instruments played in therapeutic ways to create a mental or physical change.
